Christmas market Texel
The Christmas market in Oosterend is a beloved tradition that transforms the historic village centre into a charming Christmas scene. Along the illuminated streets around the Maartenskerk, you’ll find stalls offering Texel products, handmade and vintage items, Christmas decorations and delicious treats. Live music in the church and beautifully decorated advent windows create a warm and festive atmosphere. Smaller Christmas markets are also held at various locations, with proceeds going to charity.
Opening hours: 3:00–4:00 p.m. especially for people with disabilities, and 4:00–8:00 p.m. for everyone.

Meierblis
The Meierblis is an age-old tradition still celebrated on Texel. During this festive event, bonfires are lit to welcome the arrival of spring, bid farewell to winter, or chase away winter spirits. Each village has a large communal fire, surrounded by smaller fires where people roast marshmallows and bake bread. Children smear soot marks on each other’s faces, while everyone enjoys the warm, lively atmosphere around the flames.
The Wadden Bird Festival
The entire weekend is dedicated to birdwatching for a good cause. There are plenty of activities, including a Bird Fair, the Texel Big Day, and many guided birding excursions. The Wadden Bird Festival offers everyone the chance to enjoy birds in their own way, while raising awareness and funds for bird conservation.
